Philip Campbell, CIO/VP of Information Services at CalvertHealth, has an interesting perspective on how one should lead in the midst of fear/uncertainty – and it involves a very timely hockey analogy. 🏒
In this the middle of the Stanley Cup Finals for hockey (Dallas Stars down 2 games to 1 against the Tampa Bay Lightning), Philip compares leading during fear/uncertainty to skating to where the puck is going to be.
“The assumption was the puck would at least be on the ice. Now the puck can be in the concession stand. It can be out in the street. It can be in the parking lot.”
Philip says it is the job of the leader to either try to reestablish some of those boundaries, try to get the puck back on the ice, or completely redefine the “playing field.”
