October 1st is the beginning of “Cyber Security Awareness Month.”
“Cyber Security Awareness Month” raises awareness about the importance of cybersecurity, ensuring that all Americans have the resources they need to be safer and more secure online.
The theme for this year is “Do Your Part. #BeCyberSmart.”
This theme encourages individuals and organizations to own their role in protecting their part of cyberspace and stresses personal accountability.
Here are a few cybersecurity best practices to help you be proactive in protecting yourself online:
🚨Get Savvy about wi-fi hotspots: Public wireless networks are not secure. Use a VPN for a secure connection.
🚨 Think before you click: Keep an eye out for suspicious emails. A few red flags to watch out for include urgency, and a request to submit personal information.
🚨 When in doubt, throw it out: When spotting a “phishy” looking email, report the email as spam and trash it.
🚨 Lockdown your login- Passwords alone are not enough. Enable 2-factor authentication on all accounts if it is offered.
